Why Retail Software Fails | 11 Years Inside EDITED

A decade of watching retail software land or fail to, and the failure patterns that repeat.

Kristina Mills-Barrett spent eleven years at EDITED, latterly as global VP of customer success, taking it from a small team and roughly £5m of revenue to £28m and a globally dispersed one. Before that she was a merchandiser at Arcadia and Debenhams.

The conversation is about what separates the retailers who get value out of a rollout from the ones who do not. Her answer is not about the software: it is that the ones who saw a return had already decided to change how they made decisions, and the ones who struggled were either gatekeeping the data inside one team or counting seats to justify the invoice.

Also in here: what merchandising actually is in plain English, why an action-oriented system beats a reporting one, and the line that gives the episode its shape: magic bullets do not exist.
